BAGUIO CITY (May 24, 2022) – The labor department in the Cordillera has approved the petition to hike the workers’ minimum wage in the Cordillera Region.
DOLE CAR Regional Director Nathaniel Lacambra announced that the new minimum wage order was given a go signal by the Regional Tripartrite Wages and Productivity Board (RTWPB) Cordillera.
There will be an additional of P50 to P60 to the minimum wage but will come in two tranches, he said.
He also explained that such tranches are because the businesses and employers are still recovering from the economic setbacks caused by the pandemic.
In Baguio City, Tabuk City and La Trinidad, Benguet, P30 will be added to the areas where P350 is being received as minimum wage.
While P40 will be given to workers in some parts of the areas wherein the minimum wage is P340.
According to Lacambra, they are waiting for the approval from the National Wages and Productivity Board Commission (NWPBC) for the implementation of the increase.
The second tranche will be given on January 1, 2023 wherein P20 will be given to all workers in the region to meet the minimum wage at P400.
Meanwhile, owners of small businesses who have difficulties to give increases can apply for provisional exemption.
