Covid fatality rate in Baguio lowers since the start of vaccination

BAGUIO CITY (August 26, 2021)— A decrease in the Covid-19 fatality rate in Baguio City was seen since the vaccination started here,  City Epidemiology Surveillance Unit (CESU) Chief Dr. Donnabel Tubera-Panes said Thursday.
Panes said they have recorded a total of  22 Covid-related deaths as of August 26, 2021. She said it is much lower than the 87 deaths logges in the month of April.
The vaccine roll-out in the city started March.
She said that the decrease in the fatality rate in the city is because of the vaccination that was conducted among the vulnerable or persons at risk. Panes explained that the vulnerable people are elderly residents.
She said that there is a 28 % chance of death among people who are 80 years old and above infected by the virus. Panes also said there is a 12.25 % chance of death among the Covid infected people aged 70 to 79 while 22% among peoole aged 92 years old and above.
Panes meanwhile explained why there are still people being infected with Covid 19 even if they are vaccinated.
She said that the bodies of people differ from each other moreover they have different reactions to the vaccines.
She stressed that being vaccinated does not mean not being infected at all by the virus but severe symptoms and especially death can be prevented.
Panes acknowledged that there are people who were said to be vaccinated yet still died but she said the cases are still being investigated and studied. She stressed that majority of the covid-related deaths are from the unvaccinated people.
