Crackdown On VS Face Shield Cheats In Baguio

BAGUIO CITY (August 8, 2020) – Baguio City Mayor Benjamin Magalong ordered a crackdown against scheming individuals jacking up prices of face shields.

The local government have been receiving not a few complaints that retail prices of said protective device had continued to spiral amid orders mandating its use as added defense against Coronavirus disease (COVID-19).

“I am ordering the City Health Services Office and the Public Order and Safety Division to coordinate with the Dept. of Trade and Industry (DTI) to take immediate action against these opportunists. It is unconscionable to take advantage of others especially in this time of crisis ,” the contact tracing czar and former police general said.

Magalong requested the DTI to closely monitor face shield prices in the city after prices escalated on the heels of his issuance August 5 of Executive Order No. 118 requiring employees in business establishments, banks and government offices to don the protective gear.

DTI-CAR submitted a report Aug. 7 having monitored 80 establishments selling different kinds of face shields with their corresponding price ranges.
