A win for Muslims
Department of Budget and Management (DBM) Secretary Amenah “Mina” F. Pangandaman commended President Ferdinand R. Marcos
Jr. for signing into law Republic Act (RA) 12160 or “An Act Requiring the Proper and Immediate Burial of Muslim Cadavers in Accordance with the Islamic Rites.” Sec. Mina, a proud Muslim, Maranao, and a daughter of Mindanao, welcomed the passage of the new law, which
she describes as a huge development for fellow Muslims. “First and foremost, we thank our beloved President Bongbong Marcos for signing the Islamic burial law which institutionalizes the protocols for proper and timely burial of our departed loved ones.
Under the law, the burial of Muslim cadavers must be performed as soon as possible, with or without a death certificate. It also states that Muslim cadavers shall be released within 24 hours by the concerned hospital, medical clinic, funeral parlor, morgue, custodial and prison facilities, and other similar facilities, or persons who have custody of them. Republic Act 12160 was
signed by the President on 11 April 2025 and published on the Official Gazette’s website on Monday
