DOH OPENS FIRST OF SIX SUPER HEALTH CENTERS IN LA UNION

SAN FERNANDO, La Union

The Department of Health (DOH) – Ilocos Region has inaugurated the first of its 6 th Super Health Center (SHC) in
the Province of La Union, located in Barangay Siboan-Otong, one of the upland barangays of San Fernando City.
Phase 1 of the facility has been completed and was funded under the 2022 DOH-Health Facility Enhancement Program (HFEP) with a budget of P6.5 million pesos. An additional P6 million has been allocated under HFEP 2024 for its Phase 2 construction.

The center will provide basic first aid services and mainly for outpatient services. It will open from 8AM to 5PM and will be managed by the city health office. This SHC was established on a lot donated by the City Government of San Fernando. Regional Director Paula Paz M. Sydiongco stated that residents in this barangay, including its neighboring areas, will now have their own health facility. “Makakatulong ito nang malaki lalo na sa kanilang pamasahe papunta sa bayan which costs around P150 -P200 fare via tricycle.”

“Dito ay maibibigay na sa kanila ang mga serbisyong pangkalusugan na kailangan nila. At ang super health center
din ang tutulong sa kanila upang sila ay mabigyan ng referral sa mga medical facilities with higher service
capability kung sila naman ay may serious health concerns o komplikadong karamdaman na kailangang isangguni.”
SHCs will improve access to primary healthcare in the communities by providing early detection of diseases, medical
consultations and primary care.

The super health center will serve the upland barangays of Birunget, Bungro, Narra Este, Narra Oeste, Sagayad, Tanquigan and Siboan-Otong in San Fernando City. The five SHCs that are currently under construction are located in Aringay, Naguilian, Pugo, Rosario, and San Juan.
