DOT-CAR RECOGNIZES LOCAL JOURNALISTS, MEDIA OUTLETS, BLOGGERS

The Department of Tourism – Cordillera Administrative Region hosted a Media Appreciation Night on March 31, recognizing the
contribution of local journalists, various city-based media organizations as well as bloggers in promoting tourism industry in the region and the country as a whole. A Plaque of Appreciation were given to 34 journalists, two bloggers , radio-television networks and regional
community newspapers to include Amianan Balita Ngayon, with Thomas Picaña as publisher and editor-in-chief, and former president of Baguio Correspondents and Broadcasters Club BCBC.

ABN news writer and photojournalist Zaldy Comanda , Jimmy Ceralde (photojournalist) and this writer are among those honorees in the event recently held at Baguio Country Club. In her message, Regional Director Jovita A. Ganongan, DOT-CAR said The Department of Tourism – Cordillera Administrative Region has always recognized the essential role of media in making our tourism initiatives more impactful. ‘This event is a moment for us to pause, reflect, and give thanks to the individuals who have played a crucial role in shaping the way our region is seen by the world.’ ‘We understand the challenges that come with your profession—the long hours, the deadlines, the pressure to deliver compelling yet accurate narratives. It is not an easy job, but you do it with such passion and integrity, and for that, we
are truly grateful.’ ‘Your efforts do not go unnoticed, and we deeply appreciate the time, passion, and creativity you pour into your work. ‘

The power of media lies in its ability to inspire, educate, and influence, and this has been clearly demonstrated in the way you have helped us position the Cordillera as a premier destination for arts, heritage, culture, and eco-tourism,’ Ganongan stressed. ‘The power of media in
tourism cannot be overstated. Your work does more than just report events—it inspires wanderlust, creates meaningful connections, and influences travelers’ decisions.’ Tourism is not just about places; it is about people, stories, and experiences, and the media serves as a bridge that connects all these elements the DOT official added. ‘Through your lenses and narratives, you capture the essence of the Cordillera—the warmth of our people, the vibrancy of our festivals, and the richness of our heritage. In doing so, you help us not only attract visitors but also educate them on the value of preserving our culture and natural resources.’ Our partnership is one built on trust, collaboration, and a shared vision to showcase the best of the Cordillera to the world, Ganongan emphasized.
