More than a thousand completed infrastructure projects of the Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) enhanced connectivity and fueled economic growth in the province of Abra. Abra District Engineer Edwin Bringas reported that the DPWH-Abra District Engineering Office completed a total of 1,308 regular projects and 214 special projects. These projects include 88 multipurpose buildings, 48 barangay halls, 106 covered courts, 81 bridge-related works, 239 flood control structures, 399 road projects, 62 classrooms, four health facilities, 103 farm-to-market roads, and 13 legacy bridges.
“These accomplishments reaffirm our commitment to deliver quality public infrastructure projects for the province. We are building not just infrastructure but hope and opportunity for the people of Abra,” Bringas stressed. During the first Monday of the month flag raising ceremony at the Provincial Capitol on June 2, Bringas also shared that 168 projects are programmed for 2025. He said that 100 of the 2025 projects are already ongoing construction while 68 will be implemented in the second half of this year. Two high impact projects, the San Quintin to San Mariano bypass road which will cut travel time to Ilocos Sur for about 30 minutes and the Bangued-Cabaroan, Tayum bypass road set to reduce travel time and open economic opportunities, are being implemented.
“Ongoing projects like the replacement of Alinaya Bridge, construction of Canan, Otip, Mansaong, Balingasa, and Sinalang-Palao bridges and the completion of the ongoing Langiden Bridge and Calaba Viaduct are transforming our provincial landscape,” Bringas
added. Pivotal roads like the Palao-Sta Rosa-Cabuloan-Bangbangar-Calaba bypass will also help accelerate the economic momentum in the province once completed. “Through these efforts, nearly 500 job order personnel have been employed, proof that our projects uplift both economic and the lives of our people,” Bringas said. Aside from road projects, the DPWH-Abra is also set to build the Abra Colosseum and a modern school building at the University of Abra-Mudeng Campus. Bringas also expressed gratitude to the different
stakeholders, leaders, and the communities for the continuous support and trust in constructing infrastructures that bring hope and
opportunities to Abreños.
