Former Muay Thai world champion Islay Erika Bomogao is now with the biggest mixed martial arts stage, the ONE Championship. A dream that finally came true, Bomogao in a Facebook post last Thursday said: “Y ep. I finally made it to ONE Championship.” The 23-year old University of Baguio graduate post had a photo of her wearing ONE gears including a Fairtex shorts.
Her post, nine hours after placing it, has garnered more than 4,800 likes 275 shares and 394 comments among them are Philippine national team kickboxer team members Claudine Veloso, Daryl Chulipas, Gina Iniong, Iniong wona gold medal in the recently concluded Asian Kickboxing Championship n Cambodia, while the other two took home bronze medals. “Keep it up,” said former mayor and congressman Mauricio Domogan.
Her father and councilor Benny Bomogao was even prouder when he wrote: “ Anak, my beautiful daughter. You
were raised that no one would ever land hands on you. But you choose a sport that will not spare you from such. Be
strong then and train well. Goodluck. May Allah grant your wishes and success in your chosen endeavor in life. May you always be safe. Inshallah. We love you.”
Islay last saw action in Australia where she joined fellow muay Thai national team member Leeariel Lampacan and
coach Zaidi Lauran in the Philippine – Australian showdown. She and Lampacan won their matches, while Laruan drew with his opponent. She also won a bronze medal in the World Muay Thai Championship late August in Thailand in the combat side, while taking home a gold in mai muay event. Before the Australia sojourn, Bomogao was rated the number one female fighter in her weight division by the IFMA.
