BAGUIO CITY
Today, Congressional candidate Gladys Vergara officially filed her Certificate of Candidacy (COC) for Baguio’s lone congressional seat, accompanied by City Councilor aspirant Glenn “Pavarotti” Gaerlan, as both seek office in the upcoming May 2025 elections.
In a statement following her COC filing, Vergara, the eldest daughter of retired 12-year Representative Bernardo M. Vergara, reiterated her call for a friendly and respectful competition among all candidates. “We’re all friendly competitors in this congressional election,” Vergara emphasized. “In the end, it’s a contest among equals, where we are all simply eager to serve the people of Baguio.”
She underscored that the better candidate is one who can offer a strong legislative agenda that improves the quality of life for residents and reinforces Baguio’s reputation as the highly urbanized, most livable city cherished by Filipinos. “Baguio is not only a local treasure but a globally recognized tourist destination,” Vergara noted. “The next Congressman must prioritize progressive legislation to ensure Baguio remains a proud and joyful place for residents, tourists, and those who work here.”
Vergara also expressed her desire to follow in her father’s footsteps, advocating for national support to transform Baguio into a smart city, driven by good governance beyond political affiliations. “As we move forward in this race, I urge my fellow aspirants to conduct a friendly rivalry marked by mutual respect and civility—values that have long distinguished Baguio’s political culture,” she added. Vergara concluded by highlighting that while politics is temporary, friendships last a lifetime.
