GUICO EYES TWO PPC CAMPUSES, DOUBLE NUMBER OF SCHOLARS THIS YEAR

Gov. Ramon V. Guico III steps on the gas to provide free education to students from low income families as the province owned Pangasinan Polytechnic College will be expanded with the establishment of two new campuses soon and increase the number of scholars this coming academic year Guico, during his State of the Province Address last April 5 announced that two new campuses will be established in Umingan town and a 15 hectare property in the neighboring town of Bugallon. Guico said that the planned Umingan campus will cater to residents from the eastern side of the province, while the Bugallon campus will do the same for student-residents from the central and western portion.

It was revealed that “a series of meetings were also conducted with PPC leaders as to the possibility of utilizing (said property,” a release from the governor’s office state. The PPC opened last year with 700 scholars and a school administration led by former University of the Philippines – Baguio Chancellor Raymundo Rovillos. Entering its second year, the PPC is expected to double it’s population with a similar number of new scholars this coming academic year, the governor said “We will accept a new batch of qualified 700 scholars more this coming school year,” he added. The PPC offers courses in Bachelor of Science in Agribusiness, Bachelor of Arts (BA) in Multimedia Arts, BA Special Needs Education, and BA in Public Administration major in Local Governance.

The PPC also offers Technical Education and Skills Development Authorities – accredited technical-vocational courses including but not limited to Cookery National Certificate II, Masonry NC 1, Heavy Equipment Operation Courses, along with micro-credentials in significant areas like business, governance, and agriculture. Guico said that PPC will also soon start offering medical related courses with the establishment of its School of Medicine and Health Sciences. Guico, whose mother is a medical doctor, has made medical care as one of priority projects “Technical working groups are now preparing Commission of Higher Education requirements for this purpose,” he said as he added that the establishment of a College of Law is also in the pipeline. Meanwhile, he has also directed that unused buildings in the Narciso Ramos Sports and Civic Center (NRSCC) will be utilized as PPC school buildings.
