BAGUIO CITY (March 3, 2021) – The agriculture department launched Wednesday “Babay ASF” or “Bantay African Swine Fever sa Barangay” for the whole of Region 1.
The program’s major component– is to repopulate to revive the swine industry.
Although DA Region 1 said there are no ASF cases listed in the entire region for more than one month now, DA Region 1 Regulatory Division Chief Dr. Annie Bares said, the last case listed was in Mapandan, Pangasinan and Tagudin, Ilocos Sur last January.
There were 53 areas in Ilocos Region tough that were hit by the ASF virus.
Bares added that 26 locations in the Ilocos Region were identified as pink zones while 46 were on the green zones.
Pink zones are buffer areas while green are protected zones, the two are part of the four containment zoning measures in preventing the further spread of ASF virus. The other two are red which is the infected zones while yellow is for surveillance zone.
The DA official also bared that a total of 43,525 pigs that were culled in the whole region.
