BAGUIO CITY (June 2, 2022) – Incoming Tabuk City councilor Errol
Comafay Jr., a staunch critic of City Mayor Darwin Estrañero is just waiting to be caught for libel.
No warrant of arrest has so far been issued by the court in Tabuk City, Comafay, a lawyer who won a seat in the city council during the May 9 polls said.
Comafay’s case stemmed from his criticisms against Estrañero’s management of funds during the pandemic when the Mayor allowed purchases of allegedly blatantly overpriced medical supplies.
Comafay is one of those who Estrañero sued for cyber libel at the height of the thermal scanner controversy which the Tabuk City LGU bought for P12,000 pesos a piece when its retail price is at 300-400 pesos. The DOH ceiling price then was between 4,000 to 6,000 pesos.
Estrañero, in his complaint against his critics, claimed his reputation was destroyed by the allegations against him. The thermal scanners were bought at those prices because of the exigency of the situation at that time, the city mayor who had won a second term had argued.
Comafay also lawyered for groups oppossing the development of the Tabuk City public market by a private developer, a project pushed by Estrañero being viewed as detrimental to public interest.
