Increase incentives of retiring city hall workers proposed

The city council has approved on first reading a proposed ordinance augmenting the cash incentive of retiring elected government officials and employees.
The proposed ordinance is an amendment to Ordinance Numbered 70, Series of 2017 which grants cash incentive in the amount of P5,000.00 for every year of service to every retiring official government official or employee, including elected officials whose term shall expire.
Upon the enactment of the amendatory ordinance, retiring government officials and employees may soon receive P10,000.00 for every year of service of not less than nine years and an additional P5,000.00 for every year of service in excess of nine years.
The amendment shall also include co-terminus staff who completed at least nine years of city government service.
Councilor Isabelo Cosalan, author of the ordinance and the chairperson of the Committee on Ethics, Governmental Affairs, and Personnel, said the increase in the retirees’ cash incentive would give cushion to the effect of inflation in order to aid them financially as they start their “new career, interest, and a new life.”
Cosalan added the said increase is also in recognition of their service to the City Government of Baguio.
