Increased benefits for elderly approved in the SC on Senior Citizen

The Philippines currently has about 6.3 million senior citizens. As we have seen during the pandemic, they are a vulnerable sector of society exposed to various risks.
Many of them continue to work despite their retirement age due to the economic demands of their families.
To help our senior citizens cope with rising prices of commodities and to help them improve their quality of life, HB 1903 “Increasing the Rate of Discount Granted to Senior Citizens on their Monthly Electric and Water Consumption” was filed by Baguio Rep. Mark Go for it is essential to increase the senior citizen discount from 5% to 10% to mitigate their burden.
A similar measure, HB 3040 by Rep. Estrellita Suansing, was also approved. These two bills will be consolidated into a substitute bill. Cong. Mark Go believes that our elderlies deserve the care and support that can be granted to them.
The provisions of the bill include: The individual meters should be registered under the name of the senior citizen The monthly consumption should not exceed 100 kilowatt hours of electricity and 30 cubic meters of water.
“Since the 17th Congress we have been advocating for this bill not just because we want our elderly citizens to experience the benefits but because it is our obligation to do all that we can for them. With this, I am grateful to the House Committee on Senior Citizens for tackling this relevant measure and we will work for its approval into law.” ~ Rep. Mark Go
