ISLAY ERIKA BOMOGAO WINS ON HER BIRTHDAY USING FILIPINO MUAY THAI STYLE

Her birthday, her own style and her own sweet victory. Former world Muay Thai champion Islay Erika Bomogao
unleashed her own brand of Muay Thai as she won her debut in the ONE Championship last November 8 by defeating Fuu of Japan at the famed Lumpinee Arena in Bangkok, Thailand. The world’s top ranked player in the 48-kilogram division earned the nod of all judges in the three round match against in the catchweight 100 kg. category.

Earlier, Bomogao on her Facebook post, Bomogao wrote: “I want to show a different Muay Thai style, a Filipino style of Muay Thai. We’re a country of happy people, and I want to encapsulate that with how I fight.” Sge added: “I want to showcase a Muay Thai that is relaxed, that’s cerebral, but at the same time having fun.” And Bomogao never
faltered as the Japanese caught Bomogao off guard early. However, Bomogao made her adjustment as she threw kicks up top even as she unleashed quick punches and elbows.

In round two, Fuu pressed the action, but the daughter of city councilor Benny Bomogao landed the cleaner strikes as the judges favored her. Team Lakay’s Carlos Alvarez returned to his winning ways as he scored a second round technical knock out over Mirza Aliev. Another Filipino, flyweight striker Fritz Biagtan scored aunanimous decision win over Seyedali Asli.
