Calling all art lovers! SM City Baguio will be hosting Cordillera Hueniverse at the mall atrium on September 16-22. This event is an interactive Cordilleran art exhibit where anyone will be able to watch artists create their own art pieces.
Cordillera Hueniverse is an exhibit that hopes to continue reaching a global scale to proudly present our vibrant Cordilleran colors.
This is also a way to preserve and celebrate the history and culture of the Cordillerans through arts. The event will have three booths, each representing the Cordillera provinces of Mt. Province, Abra, and Kalinga.
Tam-awan Village artists will be showcasing their artistry through weaving in the Mt. Province booth. The artists will be using a loom, a device that is used to weave cloth. The artists will demonstrate how they weave their fabrics while answering questions from the public and assisting in making woven fabrics.
Baguio Collective Youth artists will be displaying their beautiful selection of woven baskets made from bamboo in the Abra booth. The artists are going to show how they paint the baskets, and anyone can volunteer to paint and learn.
Other artists from the Baguio Collective Youth will show off their skills in making henna tattoos in the Kalinga booth. The concept was inspired by the famous Kalinga Tribal Tattoo artist, Whang-od.
Anyone can avail a free henna tattoo from the artists’ range of designs. There will also be kiosks displaying Cordilleran products for sale, aside from the interactive art booths, including the famous Masferré Souvenirs, and a photo booth area where anyone may take photos to commemorate their visit.
SM City Baguio believes in advocating the arts by using their space to bring more attention to Cordilleran artists and their works.
An exhibit entitled “Narpuan: An Artistic Expression of Cordillera Pride” was held at SM last August this year. The event displayed art works made by Tam-awan Village artists, also a way to encourage other aspiring artists to help preserve their culture and tradition through the arts.
Come and join the grand launch which will be held at the mall atrium on September 17 at 11am.This is your chance to interact with the artists, and learn something about our local arts and culture.
