Tabuk City, Kalinga
Kalinga State University (KSU), the premier academic institution in Tabuk City, has officially begun the process of selecting its next university president. The search was launched with a public forum at the university’s main campus, drawing a large crowd of students, faculty members, and staff eager to learn more about the candidates vying for the top position.
The forum, designed to ensure transparency and inclusivity, provided an opportunity for the university community to engage with the candidates. Each contender for the presidency was given the chance to present their personal and professional backgrounds, as well as their platforms, vision, and mission for the future of KSU. According to KSU’s Information Officer, Mary June Wacas, there are four highly qualified candidates who have made it to the shortlist.
The four candidates include:
Wacas highlighted that one of the key components of the forum was the presentation of each candidate’s platforms, development goals, and mission and vision for KSU. The candidates were asked to outline their plans for the university’s growth and to address issues currently faced by the institution. This was followed by an open forum, where students, faculty, and staff were encouraged to ask questions and raise concerns directly to the candidates.
The interactive session was seen as a crucial element in assessing the candidates’ readiness to lead. “The open forum allowed the KSU community to actively participate in the selection process, giving them the opportunity to voice their opinions and engage with the candidates on important matters,” Wacas explained. Following the public forum, the candidates will undergo a closed-door interview with the Internal Search Committee (ISC). The ISC will evaluate the candidates based on their performances during the forum and interview, and will then rank them according to their qualifications.
The results of this evaluation will be submitted to the Board of Regents (BOR), who will make the final decision regarding KSU’s next president. “The four candidates will undergo a closed-door interview conducted by the Internal Search Committee. The results of this interview will be handed over to the BOR for the final selection,” Wacas added. She also noted that Dr. Demetrio Anduyan Jr., Regional Director of the Commission on Higher Education (CHED), who was unable to attend the forum in person, will participate as one of the panelists through an online platform.
Kalinga State University is set to announce its new president on October 5, 2024. The university community remains optimistic that the selection process will result in strong leadership, paving the way for continued development and progress. Many hope that the new president will bring fresh perspectives and innovative ideas to advance the university’s mission of providing quality education and fostering regional growth. As the selection process unfolds, the candidates continue to prepare, knowing that the next few weeks will be decisive in shaping the future of KSU.
