As their contribution to the #KalikasanNamane environmental advocacy through the La Union Greening Program of the Provincial Government of La Union (PGLU), Bacurnay Family, through Board Member Nancy Corazon Bacurnay and twins Maria Victoria Angela and Maria Corazon Angelu Bacurnay, donated around 200 Narra seedlings to Gov. Francisco Emmanuel “Pacoy” R. Ortega III on March 17, 2021 at the Provincial Capitol, City of San Fernando, La Union.
The twins related their story that upon hearing of the PGLU advocacies Kalikasan Naman and the Project Tree from their parents, they believed that this is one big leap in leading the province towards the conservation of the environment. “We saw Mamang Nancy collecting the fallen Narra seeds. The next day we saw Papang Henry planting them in small black bags.
Because there were many seeds to be planted, so we helped,” said Maria Victoria Angela.
“So, we said that we will give the seedlings to Gov. Pacoy as our own little way to support these projects. Little as it may, we are happy that we have a contribution. We hope that the 200 Narra seedlings that we gave will soon be part of a healthier ecosystem in our province,” said Maria Corazon Angelu.
“We encourage our fellow youth to do even a little way to protect, preserve and conserve the environment. Our little ways put together become so big. We have to act now,” she added.
Gov. Pacoy said, “We are not apart from nature but we are a part of nature. We must also do our part in protecting our planet. We appreciate your seedling donations and I believe that small steps such as growing seedlings to be planted have a major impact on our environment.”
The seedlings were turned over to the Provincial Government – Environment and Natural Resources Office for nurturing in Provincial Nursery until the seedlings are ready for planting during the celebration of Arbor Day in June 2021 and onset of the rainy season.
Just like the Bacurnay family, all kaprobinsiaan are encouraged to identify their own contribution to show that this time, #KalikasanNaman. This may be through awareness, protection, conservation, rehabilitation and management of the environment and natural resources. Initiatives and practices to reduce wastes and carbon footprints including tree planting, river and coastal clean up, biodiversity conservation are also encouraged.
