La Union scholars ready to receive assistance through ATM Cards

Leveling up its digital services and as a testament of its full support for the welfare of youth in the province, the Provincial Government of La Union (PGLU) held the pilot distribution of the ATM Payroll Savings Card to the La Union Educational Assistance and Scholarship Program (LUEASP) on March 25, 2021 at the Diego Silang Hall, Provincial Capitol, City of San Fernando, La Union.
Present during the activity were Sangguniang Panlalawigan Committee Chairperson for Education
Board Member Nancy Corazon Bacurnay; Landbank of the Philippines San Fernando Branch Manager Adeline Ramos; Acting Provincial Treasurer Janet Molina and 10 officers of the Pederasyon ng mga Iskolars ng La Union who became the first batch of the 932 scholars who will receive their ATM Cards.
The LUEASP ATM Payroll Savings Card is a huge leap forward to ensure easier distribution of educational assistance to La Union scholars especially with the required need to comply with the minimum health standards.
The scholars shared the challenges they face in the new normal set up of learning. In his message, Gov. Francisco Emmanuel “Pacoy” R Ortega III explained, “If there are challenges, there are also opportunities -chances to learn new things. Madaming naapektuhan pero maski papano, nakakaya parin ng Pinoy, lilipas din ang lahat. This too shall pass.”
The said program emanated from Sangguniang Panlalawigan Resolution No. 211-2020 requesting the Office of the Governor thru the Local Finance Committee to Conduct a Feasibility Study Concerning a Digital System in the Distribution of Financial Assistance to PGLU Scholars authored by BM Gerard G. Ostrea signed on February 21, 2020.
The PGLU continues to provide educational assistance to help youth who are willing to go to school but are challenged to do so because of financial constraints.
