LEAGUE OF MAYORS NATL PREXY SEEKS BACK CONGRESSIONAL SEAT

Bangued, Abra (October 6, 2024)

League of Mayors of the Philippines (LMP) national president Joseph Sto Nino “JB” Bernos is seeking his return in his home province — Abra — as lawmaker. Filing his candidacy on Sunday under the Lakas Christian and Muslim Democrats (Lakas CMD), Mayor Bernos, who was Abra’s lawmaker for two terms from 2016-2022, has teamed up with former Abra governor Eustaquio Bersamin (Partido Federal ng Pilipinas, PFP), brother of former SC Chief Justice and now Executive Secretary Lucas Bersamin, eyeing the gubernatorial post and the latter’s niece Anne Bersamin (PFP) for vice governor.

Mayor Bernos sought back his hometown La Paz after 2022 as mayor after his two-term in the Lower House, and became the national president of the League of Mayors. “I have much of unfinished commitments with the people of Abra (in the House of Representatives),” the LMP National president said, even as team mate, former Gov. Bersamin said, he has lots of respect for Mayor Bernos and his wife, incumbent Abra lawmaker Menchie Bernos, for gargantuan work the husband-wife tandem had done for the Abrenians. “Its my honor to be with their team.” Rep. Menchie is the number nominee of the partylist group Solid North, which has filed its bid in the 2025 partylist elections Thursday (October 3, 2024) last week.

A young emerging political leader from the huge Ortega political family in La Union and Apayao province incumbent Gov. Elias Bulut Jr. as second and third nominees. “With our tandem,” former Gov. Bersamin vowed, “in no time, Abra will become the most improved province in the Cordillera and the whole Northern Luzon.” I am promising you that, he stressed.
