Magalong sees limited use of faceshields in Baguio

BAGUIO CITY (November 9, 2021) – As Malacañang Palace through Presidential Spokesperson Harry Roque contests the decision of Manila Mayor Isko Moreno to lift the mandatory faceshields within his territory, Baguio City Mayor Benjamin Magalong appeals for the limited use of faceshields in the city.
In a letter addressed to the Baguio City Council through Baguio City Vice Mayor Faustino Olowan, Magalong urged local legislators to amend the City Ordinance on the use of faceshields by adjusting the provisions of City Ordinance Number 49 Series of 2021.
Magalong appealed to limit the mandatory use of faceshields to areas with close contact, high exposure to the Corona Virus Disease (Covid-19) such as hospitals, isolation facilities, and other similar institutions.  The mayor said his appeal is similar to the suggestion that is now being tackled by the Inter Agency Task Force on Emerging Infectious Disease (IATF-EID).
According to Magalong, Baguio was able to reach the milestone of fully vaccinating 71.8% of its eligible population of 281, 000 as of November 6, 2021. “With this achievement, we will be pushing more to cover at least 90% of the elgible population by year end”, said the mayor.
The City starts the vaccination meanwhile of ages 12-17 residents of Baguio. As of November 8, 2021, there are already 12, 858 pediatrics or 25. 68% of the eligible population of 42, 811.
He added that as some restrictions are gradually eased in some consonance with increasing numbers of vaccinated individuals, the move of limited faceshield maybe a welcome change for the citizens after nearly two years of dealing with the pandemic.
