BAGUIO CITY
Former PLDT Baguio head John Marasigan scored a tournament high one under 68 to rule the 21st Bishop Cup last May 10 at the John Hay Golf Club. Marasigan, who led CJH I to the Seniors Am A in December last year, improved by a stroke this time for a sub-par performance to take the low gross title. Dina Eden, on the other hand, fired a two over 71 and rule the distaff side with the low gross. It was in fact the second performance during the two-day event that raises money for the put up or improvement of churches in Baguio and
Benguet. Pol Mayos ruled the Men’s A group with a net 66 after a nine over 78 and edge Marc Velazco who had a third best eight over 77 and with his 10 handicap went home with the first runner-up trophy with 77.
Actually he was tied with Roland Sacyat who had a gross 79 and net 77 after deducting his 12 handicap. But it was the eagle at hole 17 that tipped the needle for Velazco despite the birdies at the 12th and 15th hole for Sacyat. In Men’s B, Paul Vidanes was declared champion after a net 64 and a gross 86. Derrick Bautista (gross 85, net 66) and Joseph Alviar (gross 86, net 67) finished second and third places, respectively. Edrich Costes fired a gross 101 and net 63 to top the Men’s C division. He edged Jake Garcia (gross 112, net 64) low handicap bowler Terry Bugayong (gross 102, net 66). Meanwhile, Zyray de Leon fired a gross 84 for a net 60 to dominate the Ladies A division
and the crown.
Trailing her are Nida Whybrow (gross 88, net 71) and Angel Gonzales (gross 86, net 72). Regine Tolentino took the Ladies B title with a net 68 to edge Sarah Bazar, who came home with a net 69. Jolanie Sacyat had the lowest gross of 92 but placed third with her net 75. Special awards were given to Armando Mercado for the nearest the pin at the 18th where his ball landed some 27 inches from the hole. Costes took the most accurate drive, while Paz Andarayan was the most exercised player with a 142. It was practically a two day tournament with patrons and sponsors playing the first day of the event that drew some 170 players. The organizers will yet convene on May 23 as Bishop Rafael Cruz had prior appointments. Said meeting will also decide which church the organizers will have as beneficiary.
