MARTIN IMPROVES TO 4TH IN IBF RANKING, 6TH IN WBO

While Ifugao pride Carl Jammes Martin has been booted out of as one of the top 15 contenders in two of the world boxing bodies during the “Monsters” undisputed reign, he remains among the top five contenders in the two other bodies. Martin has his best ranking in the IBF where he comes at fourth behind former champion Murojdin Akhmadaliev, a two spot improvement from last year, and above two more fancied Filipino fighters – Marlon Tapales and John Riel Casimero. Tapales is rated fifth after he lost his WBA and IBF belts to Naoya Inoue in Japan in December last year. Both belts he won from Akhmadaliev in July last year.

Casimero is one of the more fancied Filipino fighters at present but has been out of circulation for a time and is
ranked sixth in the same boxing body. Casimero is the best rated Filipino fighters in the WBO rankings at fifth and is trailed by the Ifugao boxer, who improved from eighth. Amazingly, Tapales is not rated. Martin, however, is out of
the WBC radar where Tapales is third and Casimero is eighth. Last year, Martin was rated 13th. While, he was ranked 12th last year, Martin is not in the WBA list this time, where Tapales is rated fifth and Casimero out.

Martin ended 2023 with his 23rd win and saw him signing up with Manny Pacquiao’s MP Promotion. Martin earned a sixth round technical knockout win over Chaiwat Buatkrathok early December at the Elorde Sports Complex in Paranaque. With the win, the 24 years old unbeaten prospect from Lagawe, Ifugao claimed the WBO global super
bantamweight title. Martin was in Baguio for his highland training last month until December 7 and even trained with Tapales, then the WBA and IBF super bantamweight king.

In December 2022, Martin was in Baguio for the IBF Pan Pacificsuper bantamweight fight against Komgrich
Nantapech where he earned a fourth round demolition of the Thai. Martin signed with MP Promotion of the boxing icon in his bid for a world title fight. Martin also signed up with the US-based Premier Boxing Champion and TGB Promotions in his effort to land a world title fight.
