BAGUIO CITY
Mayor Benjamin Magalong urged residents here to prepare for potential hazards of severe tropical storm “Pepito”
which is expected to directly impact the city. Based on current forecasts, the city is almost on the direct path of howler and if the scenario does not change, it will be bringing heavy to intense rain starting 4 p.m. Sunday until 7 a.m. Monday. “We have to be prepared especially since the brunt will hit us at night time,” the mayor said. To ensure safety, the City Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office (CDRRMO) issued a memorandum for public safety:
1. Call 911 for any emergency
2. Be prepared
• Monitor reliable weather updates from local authorities, PAGASA, and/or trusted and reliable media sources.
• Prepare an emergency kit with essentials such as food, water, first-aid supplies, flashlights, batteries, and
important documents in a waterproof bag/container.
• Charge electronic devices and ensure communication devices are ready for use.
3. Check Your Residences
• Secure any loose items around your home, particularly on rooftops and outdoor areas, to prevent them from becoming hazards.
• Clear debris from gutters, drains, and downspouts to reduce risk.
• Inspect and reinforce roofs, windows, and doors if necessary. Address any existing leaks or damages that could worsen during the storm.
4. Assess Potential Hazards
• If you live in a flood-prone, landslide-prone, or low-lying area, take extra caution and prepare for possible evacuation.
• Stay alert for signs of landslides or flooding, such as cracks in the ground or unusual sounds, and report any concerns to local authorities immediately.
• Know your Barangay emergency hotlines.
5. Consider Pre-emptive Evacuation if Necessary
• Heed local government advisories regarding pre-emptive evacuation. Prioritize the safety of family members, particularly children, the elderly, and those with medical conditions.
• Know your local evacuation center locations and plan transportation in case evacuation is needed.
6. Stay Indoors and Avoid Travel
• Limit movement during the typhoon to reduce exposure to hazards.
• Avoid crossing rivers, flooded areas, and landslide-prone zones to prevent accidents.
“By taking these steps and staying informed, we can all work together to minimize risks and protect our community. Stay safe and vigilant, and please follow the instructions of local authorities,” the CDRRMO said.
