BAGUIO CITY – Mayor Benjamin B. Magalong on Thursday assured the public that all illegally-parked vehicles along roads in residential areas will be subsequently towed.
Towing operations had just been delayed because the contract being entered into between the owner of the land for use as impounding area and the towing company is in the process of finalization, the mayor said.
The mayor also expressed concern over barangay officials who were deputized under the previous administration to aid in the city’s anti-road obstruction campaign.
“Ang nangyayari sa kanila, dahil na-thre-threaten din sila, minsan nawawalan din sila ng lakas ng loob dahil feeling nila, di sila masyadong na ba-back apan ng barangay kapitan, especially mga barangay tanod (What is happening to them is that they are also being threatened, sometimes they lose confidence because what they feel is that they are not being backed by the barangay chairman, especially the barangay tanods),” the mayor said.
“If you are threatened, it’s not worth na makipag-away ka. If you think it will endanger your life, your safety, don’t engage, it’s not worth it,” the mayor added. He feels these officials needed support from the mayor’s office and the mayor gave them his assurance.
“Don’t worry, once na maumpisahan na yung towing, i-to-tow namin lahat yan,” the mayor said. The fine prescribed under existing ordinances for each towed motor vehicle is P150 for illegal parking, P500 impounding fee per day, and P1, 500 towing fee prior to the release of the towed vehicle from the designated impounding area.
