Mayor re-formats regular flag raising rites

BAGUIO CITY – The local government’s regular flag raising ceremony now allows the participation of members of the local legislative body to render inspirational messages to officials and employees at the start of the work week, Mayor Benjamin B. Magalong announced on Wednesday, July 17, 2019.

The mayor said it should not only be the mayor who provides inspirational messages to the local government’s work force every Monday. He said it is also important for other officials and department heads to share insights on certain programs and projects of the city.

Sponsoring departments of the regular Monday flag raising ceremony will have to select from one of the local legislators to speak about their programs and projects starting July 22, 2019, as part of their information and education campaign on the programs and projects of their offices and committees, he said.

Government offices including local governments are mandated to hold regular Monday flag-raising ceremonies under existing civil service rules and regulations to signal the start of the work week and to serve as a venue for heads of offices to issue marching orders to their employees as their overall guide in the performance of their assigned duties and responsibilities.

Offices and departments are also obliged to provide updates on the implementation of their programs, projects and activities and to render reports on their accomplishments in a given period during the conduct of the regular flag raising rites.

The mayor’s move to give members of the local legislative body a chance to provide the inspirational messages during the regular Monday flag raising ceremony has elated the members of the local legislative body considering the importance of the programs, projects and activities of their committees and the important legislation that were filed supporting the administration’s bid to establish a better Baguio.

Officials and employees of government offices are mandated to attend the regular Monday flag raising ceremony in their respective offices pursuant to existing civil service rules and regulations and that their failure to do so will cause deduction to their leave credit.

Magalong urged officials and employees of the local government to always internalize the messages by the speakers and use the same as their inspiration and motivation to exceed their accomplishments for the previous week and excel in the delivery of services to their clients.

Earlier, the local government introduced the needed facelift in front of the city hall, particularly the put up of a stage, as a venue for various related activities in open areas and which will also serve as a venue for the city’s regular flag raising ceremony.

He said he is optimistic that by providing local legislators with opportunities to explain their programs and projects, the people will be aware that the local government is doing something to address the problems of the city within their level in a bid to achieve the overall objective of establishing a better Baguio in the next three years.
