Led by Regional Director Dir. Susan A. Sumbeling and Assistant Regional Director Stephanie F. Christiansen, the NEDA-CAR joins in the women’s monthlong celebration on various platforms.
The theme, “We Make Change Work for Women” highlights the empowerment of women as harbingers of change that is anchored on malasakit (building a high-trust society) at pagbabago (transforming towards equity and resiliency) of the AmBisyon Natin 2040.
Some NEDA-CAR staff along with members of the Regional Gender and Development Committee (RGADC) joined the “Caravan ni Juana” on March 8, 2022. This signaled the celebration which was followed by the opening program at the Department of Education Regional Office where members benchmarked on the agency’s best practice on award-giving.
Dubbed as ReGADnition Award for three categories, namely, PRIDE Award, Empowered Women, and Outstanding GAD Implementer. The RGADC aims to expand the practice to include local government units and other regional line agencies.
NEDA staff participated in the seminar-workshop, “Beyond the GAD Checklist orientation and Review of the Harmonized Gender and Development Guidelines (HGDG) in the Context of Research and Development (R&D),” held on March 7.
This was sponsored by the Cordillera Consortium on Agriculture, Aquatic, and Resources Research and Development (CorCAARRD), one of the three research consortia in the region.
The learning session focused on the use of HGDG to integrate gender and development (GAD) elements in R&D programs and projects among the state universities and colleges SUCs) and government agencies with research mandates.
It highlighted how the results of HGDGs are applied in identifying strategies to address the gaps by using the HGDG checklist and analyzing the results to access funds.
Dr. Ruth Batani, Consortium Director, pointed out that funding agencies now imposed the inclusion of HGDG in the R&D programs and projects.
She enumerated the entry points in GAD mainstreaming but for R&D, “this could be undertaken early in the research proposal preparation, that is, in the statement of the problem, conceptual and theoretical framing, and methodology.”
Meanwhile, the Cordillera Regional Development Council (RDC-CAR) through the RGADC approved the resolution encouraging government agencies, LGUs, SUCs, and other project proponents to accomplish the HGDG checklist as part of the project proposals, during its first quarter meeting on March 9.
The RGADC is an RDC support committee mandated to lead in ensuring the integration of the gender perspectives in the regional development processes.
