NIA-CAR COMPLETES 242 IRRIGATION PROJECTS CY 2023

LA TRINIDAD, Benguet- A total of 242 irrigation projects in CY 2023 were completed, equivalent to 88 percent accomplished , according to National Irrigation Administration- Cordillera (NIA-CAR). Based on the Status of
Project Implementation CY 2023 (Feb. 29,2024) submitted to Engr. Benito Espique, NIACAR Regional Manager by
Engr. Sammy Kibungan, Chief Engineering Section,Mt. Province topped the list of completed irrigation projects with 90, Benguet 54, Ifugao 35, Kalinga 34, Abra 32 and Apayao 27. Completed irrigation projects include-Rehabilation
of Ground Pump Irrigation System (RGPIS), Establishmentof Ground Pump Irrigation Project-Solar (EGPIP),Repair
and Restoration of National and Communal Irrigation System (NIS/CIS), Small Impounding Irrigation Project (SIP) and Service Roads.
There are 30 projects still for completion: Mt. Province (7), Ifugao (6), Kalinga and Apayao has five each, respectively, Benguet four, and Abra three. NIA-CAR also reported that some 888.94 hectares of new areas were developed, and restored 2,378.43 hectares for a total of 3,267.43 hectares. It also repaired and rehabilitated some 43 kilometers of pipelines and 33.27 kilometers of canal, generating a total 8,529 jobs region wide. In 2023, the agency was given a total allocation of P1.654.599-billion for its 272 programmed irrigation projects. Meanwhile, for 2024, the agency has a total of 234 irrigation projects with a otal allocation of P1.378.917-billion.
