NIA-CAR SUSTAINS FOOD SECURITY PROGRAM

LA TRINIDAD, BenguetNational Irrigation Administration-Cordillera (NIA-CAR) recently renewed its commitment to the Enhanced Partnership against Hunger and Poverty (EPAHP) Program of the
Department of Social Welfare and Development ( DSWD). In doing so,NIA-CAR Regional Manager signed the Regional Memorandum of Understanding (MOU).

NIA is one of the 18 government agencies in the Cordillera that signed the MOU on EPAHP, a convergence program of the government that aims to mitigate hunger, ensure food and nutrition security, and reduce poverty in the urban and rural communities. Under the EPAHP, NIA will
assist irrigators’ associations (IAs) and linked them to other partner agencies for support services.

Several farmers- irrigators’ groups, are direct suppliers of vegetables and fruits to the Bureau of Jail Management and Penology (Benguet), and marketing agreements with business establishments are
among the activities covered under EPAHP.
