BAGUIO CITY
Lawyer Nicasio ‘Nick’ Aliping Jr, former representative of the Lone District of Baguio in the 16th Congress, appealed to ex-congressman and lawyer Mauricio Domogan for his support in the coming 2025 May election. This developed following reports that lawyer Domogan, who served almost three decades as public servant, first as a councilor, mayor and eventually congressman, is planning for another political seat in the city. On Saturday (Sept 14), Aliping held a meeting at Lafaayette Suites here and conducted an almost three-hour consultation with multi-sectoral groups, notably loyal supporters, and humbly signified his intention to vie for a political position in the Summer Capital.
Aliping , a victim of ‘black propaganda’ in the last two polls, started the meeting by expressing his gratitude to city residents for their support, elected him as three-termer city councilor, and No. 1 in his last term, and elevated him to become their representative in the 16th Congress. Courts have acquitted Aliping regarding the issue on the alleged ‘tree cutting’ cases filed against him. Remarkably in the consultation, Aliping personally acknowledged the countless works of former congressman Domogan ,and what the city had become, and his contributions in the Cordillera and to the nation as a whole during the latter stint in Congress.
Aliping, who looked energized yet realistic, appealed to Domogan to give others a chance. Political pundits observed that an ‘endorsement’ from Domogan could give a candidate a respectable fight for a political position. A number of Aliping loyalists , notably from the 128 barangays, former city officials and from the Muslim community were present in the consultation and thanked him for his countless assistance and projects. Several times, they encouraged the him (Aliping) to run.
Aliping’s notable project was the rehabilitation of the Baguio Athletic Bowl ,turning the decades old dirt-road track to rubberized; improvement of the field to ‘manicured greens’ and grandstand , to the delight of residents, athletes and sports enthusiasts. Asked by local media: Aliping said that he could serve better given a chance to become a public servant. To date, Aliping said he not a member of any political party, but he said he is open to the idea to have party or to be adopted by a political. He also reminded the public, especially those who are qualified to vote in the coming polls to register before the Sept 30 deadline for registration.
Meanwhile, Its been circulating that Sol Go, wife of Baguio Representative Mark Go, who is in his last term after a straight three-termer congressman, is planning to replace his husband to be the city representative. While Rep. Go is reportedly contemplating to have a duel with Mayor Benjamin Magalong for the mayoralty seat. Magalong is on for his last term in the forthcoming May polls. Also, Gladys Vergara, former city councilor, and presently chairperson of the Baguio City Tourism Council intends to vie a Congressional seat.
