P13.7M Weed goes Up In Smoke Again In Kalinga Hinterlands

Tinglayan, Kalinga – Anti-narcotics operatives from the Kalinga police and Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency (PDEA) torched down at least P13.7M worth of marijuana in Buscalan, Tinglayan, Kalinga Tuesday morning.
The haul were discovered on six plantation sites: 1200 square meters with around 8400 fully-grown marijuana plants; another on a 50 square meter lot with at least 250 MJ plants; a 1200 sq. meter lots with 18,000 MJ plants; another 1500 sq. meter lot with 18,000 MJ plants; another 600 sq. meter lot with at least 9,000 MJ plants; and a 1000 sq. meter lot 15,000 MJ plants.
If summed up, the total area is a little more than half a hectare of marijuana with 68,650 fully-grown plants believed to peg around P13,730,000.00.
On Monday, authorities on patrol against communist rebels stumbled into two marijuana plantations also in Buscalan.
The plantations were on a one thousand two hundred square meter lot planted with more or less thirteen thousand (13,000) fully grown marijuana plants.
The marijuana, which was pegged to reach some P2.6M were all set ablaze.
Meanwhile, 33 year old Resmo “Balong” Borreta, a former butcher, from Sao-atan, Bangued, Abra’s capital town, was caught past 5 Tuesday afternoon after undercover policemen caught him selling two sachets of shabu right in his own village.
Police said Borreta is on the Directorate for Intelligence (DI) drugs watchlist as both a user and a pusher. Borreta though denied owning the shabu while also belying he is into drugs.
Police however sued Borreta for violation of the drugs law and was taken to the jail to face trial.
