BAGUIO CITY (July 12, 2021) – The gun-for-hire group “engaged” for the slay plot against a La Union lawmaker and two other political allies, has already been paid P2million as downpayment to complete “a process of elimination” ahead of the 2022 polls in that province, intelligence and security sector sources bared over the weekend.
This as violence is lurking in the province with the discovery of the “Magpali gun-for-hire group”, a “well-oiled killing machine” tagged in the assassination of at least three high-ranking political leaders in La Union ahead of the then 2019 polls.
Now the subject of intense manhunt operations by the police, the “Magpali gun-for-hire group” is led by dismissed police Colonel Winston Magpali, brother of one of the four caught alleged killers of a farm caretaker in Bacnotan, La Union two weeks ago. With Magpali’s brother caught at one of their four alleged safehouses were an active Marines, a former PNP SAF operative and an Awol cop.
Probable targets of assassinations, according to government intelligence sources are, La Union second district lawmaker Sandra Eriguel, whose husband, former Franny, were slain in a “stealth and precise target” assassination right in his hometown in Agoo in 2018.
Other two possible targets are: a town mayor and another town vice mayor, both allies of Eriguel.
Magpali and the rest of his gang members are reportedly on the run as President Rodrigo Duterte, himself taking cognizance of the danger posed by the group, ordered Philippine National Police chief Guillermo Eleazar to hunt down Magpali and his men to thwart a looming violence it may sow in the Northern province.
