PGLU, COMPONENT LGUs RECOGNIZED FOR OUTSTANDING ENVIRONMENTAL STEWARDSHIP IN SOLID WASTE MANAGEMENT

SAN FERNANDO CITY, La Union The Provincial Government of La Union (PGLU) bags the prestigious award for Most Outstanding and Sustained Environmental Stewardship in the
Implementation of Solid Waste Management Program and Activities with the Provisions of RA 9003 during the recently concluded Ecological Solid Waste Management Summit 2023 held on June 27, 2023, at The Monarch Hotel in Calasiao, Pangasinan.

The summit is a platform to recognize exceptional efforts in waste management and sustainability.
The Department of Environment and Natural Resources (DENR) officials, Provincial, City, Municipal, and Barangay Local Government Unit heads, and representatives from NGAs, NGOs, and the academe, witnessed La Union’s remarkable commitment and achievements in environmental preservation.

The Officer in Charge of the Provincial Environment and Natural Resources Office (PG-ENRO), Annalyn RosarioValdez, and Senior EMS, Diana Jutba, received the plaque of recognition. La Union Province’s success in waste management extends beyond the provincial level. Several barangays and local government units (LGUs) were also recognized for their outstanding contributions to solid waste management. Brgy. Payocpoc Sur and Baccuit Norte in Bauang, Brgys
Casilagan and Ili Sur in San Juan, and Brgy. Sinapangan Norte in Bangar were hailed as Model Barangays in Solid Waste Management.

Their innovative approaches and effective practices serve as inspiration for others to emulate.
Moreover, LGU Agoo and LGU City of San Fernando received recognition as Model LGUs in Compliance with the Provisions of RA 9003. These LGUs have demonstrated exceptional commitment and strict adherence to the guidelines outlined in the Ecological Solid Waste
Management Act of 2000. LGU San Gabriel was also accorded for its effective composting program. The municipality’s efforts in promoting organic waste management and implementing a successful composting system have garnered well deserved recognition and praise.

Lastly, LGU Naguilian was honored as the recipient of the Best Solid Waste Enforcement
Implementation award. The municipality’s robust enforcement strategies and diligent implementation of waste management regulations have resulted in a cleaner and more sustainable environment. The awards received by the Provincial Government of La Union and its component LGUs reflect their unwavering dedication and commitment to environmental sustainability.

Through collective efforts, they have proven that effective solid waste management is achievable, serving as role models for other provinces, LGUs, and communities across Northern Luzon. As the spirit of La Union Probinsyanihan continues to thrive, these remarkable achievements serve as a testament to the province’s determination to create a greener and more sustainable future for the kaprobinsiaan and the generations to come.
