PGLU DISTRIBUTES SEEDS TO RICE FARMERS, ENSURES FOOD SUFFICIENCY

Ensuring rice sufficiency in the province for the year 2023, the Provincial Government of La Union (PGLU), through the Office of the Provincial Agriculturist (OPAg), has initiated the distribution of hybrid and certified seeds to kaprobinsiaan farmers. Dubbed as “Hybrid/Certified Seeds Assistance Program,” this initiative aims to support the agricultural sector and mitigate the impact of the Rice Tariffication Law (RA 11203) by providing affordable inputs to farmers.

Over the course of two days, June 30 and July 3, 2023, a total of 5,744 sacks of Hybrid Seeds and 1,605 sacks of certified seeds were distributed to 7,349 farmer beneficiaries across the province.
During the distribution, Gov. Raphaelle Veronica “Rafy” Ortega-David, along with personnel from the Municipal Agriculture Office of various Local Government Units, personally met with the farmer-beneficiaries.

In her speech, Gov. Rafy expressed her unwavering support for the farming community and assured them of her full-service assistance. More so, she acknowledged the vital role played by farmers in the province’s economy and stressed the significance of supporting the agricultural sector for the continued prosperity of La Union.

In addition to the seed distribution, Gov. Rafy announced that fertilizer distribution will be scheduled in the month of July, further demonstrating the government’s commitment to bolstering agricultural production in La Union.

By equipping farmers with the necessary resources and support, PGLU aims to create a thriving agricultural sector that contributes to food security and economic growth, ensuring a brighter future for both farmers and the province as a whole – all of these made possible with La Union PROBINSYAnihan.
