The Provincial Government of La Union through the Office of the Provincial Agriculturist (OPAg)
collaborated with the Department of Agriculture Philippine Center for Postharvest Development and Mechanization- Rice Competitiveness Enhancement Program (DA Philmech-RCEF) to distribute agricultural machinery to La Union Farmer Cooperatives/ Associations in support to
their agricultural productivity.
The Mechanization program aims to raise rice farmers’ productivity, profitability, and global
competitiveness through strengthened access and use of appropriate production and postproduction mechanization technologies. A total of 22 Farmer Cooperatives/Associations, and two Local Government Units benefited from the said program. The distributed machineries include 24 units of Hand Tractors and 12 Units of Rice Combine Harvesters, amounting to PHP25,920,000.
In Gov. Rafy OrtegaDavid’s message, she emphasized the profound impact of the mechanization program, stating that it not only accelerates rice production but also eases the work of the farmers in La Union. The mechanization is a step towards empowering local farmers and ensuring the
sustainability of agriculture in La Union.
