PIDDIG WINS FIRST TAN-OK NI ILOCANO CHAMPIONSHIP

LAOAG CITY, Ilocos Norte

The municipality of Piddig recently won its first Tan-ok ni Ilocano Festival of Festivals championship at Ferdinand E. Marcos Memorial Stadium, earning the ₱1 million grand prize. Bringing history to life, Piddig’s performance reenacted the 1807 Basi Revolt. Drums thundered as performers clashed with Spanish muskets. The cries of the fallen silenced the crowd. “This victory is for our ancestors who fought for freedom,” said Anthony Mariano Portillo, a Piddig contingent member. Vintar’s Siwawer Festival placed second, winning ₱500,000.

Batac’s Empanada Festival finished third with ₱400,000. Piddig also won Best Production Design and Best Choreography. Dumalneg took Best in Festival Music. Pinili and Currimao were recognized for sustainability and innovation, respectively. Lance Andrew Wenceslao of Banna was named Best Male Performer, while Janneli Erica Urnos of Batac won Best Female Performer. The Tan-ok ni Ilocano Festival of Festivals celebrates Ilocos Norte’s heritage through music, dance, and storytelling. Piddig’s victory adds a new milestone to its legacy.
