PSA-CAR LAUNCHES COMMUNITY BASED MONITORING SYSTEM (CBMS)

BAGUIO CITY- Aimed at combatting poverty in the region, the Philippine Statistics Authority- Cordillera (PSA-CAR) on Tuesday (Aug. participated in the nationwide roll-out of the Community Based Monitoring System (CBMS).
Based on the presentation by Brozybroz Mateo, PSA-CAR Statistical Specialist, a total of 59 areas (municipalities)
including the City of Tabuk from the six provinces -Abra, Apayao, Benguet, Ifugao , Kalinga and Mt Province will be
covered by the CBMS.

Mateo said starting this month (Aug.) some 36 local government units (LGUs) will start collecting data’s and expected to finish by October while the 23 other areas will commence on October to be finished on or before December this year. Both the PSA and respective LGUs will be funding the series of activities. Mateo pointed that more than a thousand hired personnel with fixed salary and transportation allowances will be conducting the collection of data’s (Phase 1) in the different areas of the region.

CBMS targets to reach all households and gather information from the general public, including but not limited
to their demographic and socioeconomic characteristics. CBMS is an organized technology-based system
utilized for collecting, processing, and validating important data’s which are vital in policy formulation, program implementation, and local planning, among others. It will also guide prospective foreign institutions in providing
financial assistance and loans to the Philippines as a whole.

The CBMS will help identify the right beneficiaries of various social protection and welfare programs. PSA-CAR Regional Director Villafe Alibuyog on her opening remarks during the event held at Paragon Hotel here, appealed to the public to participate, especially since CBMS enumerators will visit their homes to collect pertinent data’s.
The ever-active and amiable PSA regional officer Alibuyog assured the public that all information’s gathered will be
treated confidential. Alibuyog together with Interior and Local Government -CAR, Regional Director Araceli San Jose, who was also present in the CBMS launching, urged all local government units to help their agencies in conducting CBMS campaigns to further inform their respective constituents about the importance of the CBMS which is covered under Republic Act (RA) 11315.
