6th Highland Vegetable Industry Week
LA TRINIDAD, Benguet
Benguet Lone District Representative Eric Yap expressed full support of the digitalization of Benguet Agri Pinoy Trading Center (BAPTC). This multi-million project being lobbied by a private corporation aims to provide a sound trading system and legal services to both farmers and consumers. This came in Rep. Yap’s speech during the opening
program of the 6th Highland Vegetable Industry Week, read by Councilor Francis Lee. To date, almost P2 Billion
have been infused by the national government in BAPTC, the country’s biggest vegetable trading facility, generated billion in gross receipts in span of eight years ,since it started operating in 2015.
The Benguet solon also underscored some House bills he authored and co-sponsored to improve the country’s agriculture industry and hasten food security. Some of these measures include–, administration and marketing locally produce products; mandating government institution and partners to buy the produced of local farmers for their food preparation and production. Furthermore, mandating the national and local government units to buy local farmers’ products. And agricultural insurance. DA-CAR Regional Director, Lawyer Jennilyn M. Dawayan, said ‘ years the agency had provided various intervention to La Trinidad farmers.’
These interventions include farm inputs, farm equipment’s, financial assistance, training and technical support services to farmers. In a related development, DA vowed to give more funds to this capital town to hasten agricultural development and increase production. Benguet Governor Melchor D. Diclas in his speech delivered by his representative, commended the effort and hard work of local farmers not only for feeding fellow Filipinos but
also for strengthening for a sustainable agriculture sector. He noted the continuous support of DA and by
strengthening Good Agricultural Practice (GAP) certification to promote safer and healthier agricultural practices.
Mayor Romeo Salda for his part, exorted local farmers to sustain producing quality and healthier agricultural products. He stressed production and marketing play a key role and ordered a review of the highland vegetable industry to meet the challenges of modern times, ensure farmers’ profitability, and also encouraged young the
generation to plant for survival .
