SABLAN, Benguet – Increase agricultural production and improvement of tourism facilities in order to boost local economy ,topped our development priorities ,Mayor Alfredo Dacumos, Jr. said in his municipal address during their recent founding anniversary celebration. “Farming is the primary source of income and livelihood of the majority of our constituents, we shall provide the necessary assistance to our farmers to ensure that their operations are sustainable for the improvement of their farming system,” Mayor Dacumos
said.

Initially, his administration has procured 1,000 potted tissue cultured banana lacatan, 400 pcs. tissue cultured banana lacatan pricked at the Municipal Nursery. Dacumos also directed their municipal agriculture office, headed by Ramon Anacioco to conduct soil fertility mapping to all barangays, and provide seed and cash assistance to farmers. He announced that his administration will start developing a two hectares land from Payda in Barangay Bayabas for a Demo Site of agriculture concentrating on organic agriculture.

Sablan being the fruit basket of the province, Dacumos said they will enhance and promote their One-Town-One Product (OTOP) through the establishment and institutionalization of a livelihood project that shall make use ube as raw material in the production of foods. On tourism d Dacumos said: “We will sustain and enhance our tourism industry through the provision of infrastructural and capital investment interventions. We will appropriate budgets for the developments of our tourism sites, and the establishment of a pasalubong center for our farmers and entrepreneurs.” “Sablan is positioned in a strategic location.

The BLISTT development plan would be a conducive local investment and environment which we must have to take advantage to boosts up our local investments and economic development programs.” Water is vital to any development efforts, thus, the current administration said it will embark on the installation of
waterworks systems and shall continue to restore and enhance existing waterworks facilities. He said they plan to revitalized the Sablan Water System for the waterworks development program in their town.

With regards to Health and Nutrition Program, Dacumos ,said they will enhance the delivery of health services through the provision and upgrading of our health facilities and equipment’s to include the procurement of additional ambulances. And the renovation of all barangay health stations and work out for the PhilHealth accreditation of some, especially those highly populated barangays. On waste management, Dacumos said : “Pending the development of a suitable site for our Engineered Sanitary Landfill, we shall be establishing a temporary solid waste management system to address our worsening problem on garbage disposal.
