SALDA SIGNS SB RESO CALLING NEA, INTERIM BOARD TO SET ELECTION FOR REGULAR BOD

LA TRINIDAD, Benguet

Mayor Romeo Salda said that its high time for the more than 141,000 member consumers owners (MCOs) to have a voice in the Benguet Electric Cooperative (BENECO). This developed after Mayor Salda signed Resolution No. 199-2023 recently approved unanimously by their town council, headed by Vice Mayor Roderick Awingan as presiding officer. The resolution calls for National Electric Administration (NEA) and the Interim Board of the Directors to conduct an immediate election for the regular members of the Board.

In a recent interview, Mayor Salda said they have experienced so many conflicts in the “leadership crisis” in BENECO especially on the general manager position. “It must be the people to select… there must be proper representation for each (BENECO) district,” said Salda ,who clamors that there should be an elected member of the board to represent his town. The local chief executive also
rallied parties to united for the proper management of BENECO.

“Its high time for us to be united, because previously, we experienced a lot of disadvantages …member – consumers were affected much.. nun nagkagulo ang management.” In doing so, it will address the pressing needs and attend to the general welfare of MCOs. “Let’s forget the past and move for the future,” Salda stressed.

Asked about the performance of the interim board led by Steve Cating, Salda said: “ I think they’re doing their best.” Meanwhile, Salda revealed hat 30 percent out of the 1,500 street lights in their municipality are busted. The figure was based on the report by barangay chairmen of affected areas. Thus,Mayor Salda is appealing to Beneco to find ways to replace ensure the safety of the public.
