Kapangan, Benguet (June 17, 2020) – The first payout for “waitlisted” beneficiaries of the Social Amelioration Program (SAP) emergency cash assistance by the social welfare department started in Benguet and Baguio City on Tuesday afternoon.
Some 266 families in Kapangan, Benguet and 290 families from Baguio
City received P5,500 each during a pilot payout activity in the Cordillera Administrative Region (CAR).
DSWD Undersecretary Jose Ernesto Gaviola led the payout in remote barangay Labueg, Kapangan with DSWD-Cordillera director Leo Quintilla and DSWD spokesperson Irene Dumlao, officer-in-charge of the Social Marketing Service of the department.
Quintilla said other “waitlisted” beneficiaries in the highland region will receive their cash aid after the “de-duplication” process has been completed by the DSWD.
“De-duplication” ensures that there is no repetition of government subsidies from DOLE, LTFRB, DSWD, DTI, DA and SSS.
Troopers from the military and police served as paymasters and assisted in the SAP distribution and at the same time ensured the safety and security of the beneficiaries and DSWD workers in the payout.
DSWD said some 5 million “waitlisted” SAP beneficiaries around the country will also be handed out their cash aid validated and certified by their local governments. ***Artemio A. Dumlao***
