Mark Daniel Sapalong earned 5.5 points of a possible six and nip Cheldi Vallejo by a mere half point to win the 23rd
Pines City Chess Club Rapid Chess Tournament last Saturday at the Baguio Center Mall. During the 22nd edition,
Sapalong was pipped by Dwayne Tyler Dulnuan for the top podium when the latter scored a higher tie break point
after they settled with 5.5 wins a piece. This time, the University of Baguio athlete was solo at the top post with Vallejo with five points.

Four players finished tied with 4.5 points each, but Wikan Ayasao took the top spot, thus the third and last podium finish. Ayasao had 23.5 tie break point to take precedence. Wulfhere Aromin and Joanchu Miguel Dacanay had similar 21 tie break points on the first, but the former pipped the latter with his 19.5 points to 19. Jacob Hull finished with 4, 5 points but had the lowest tie break point of 20 for the sixth place.

Mishka Shezney Dacquel (Elo 1548) finished seventh from the third place finish in the last edition. She finished tied with two others at four points but had the best tie break point. Mark Andel Danabar and Mary Grace Valdez landed eighth and ninth places, respectively. Anstrong Galilie Sundiam was in a three way tie but took the 10th place due to his higher tie break point.
