SIX BENGUET COFFEE FARMERS GET RECOGNITION

LA TRINIDAD, Benguet

Dedication and commitment paid off. The Department of Trade and Industry (DTI) Baguio Benguet has recognized six local coffee farmers for their participation in the recently concluded Philippine Coffee Quality Competition held in Manila. For their quality entries, these farmers are- Rodrigo Tacdoy, Catherine Joy-Alipit, Allan Canam, Fernado Pito, Shirley Palao-ay and Robert Caesar Kiswa. Governor Melchor Diclas and DTI Provincial head, Felicitas Bandonill led the simple recognition last Monday at the Provincial Capitol.

Bandonill, DTI Provincial Head said that the province’ coffee industry ‘doing good as coffee businesses are growing
and its expanding.’ ‘ We produce quality coffee, but production is low due to limited areas for planting, compared to
Mindanao,’ Bandonill added. Benguet mainly produce Arabica variety because of the cool weather and high elevation, the DTI official said. Providing quality seedlings to farmers topped government interventions aside
enhancing marketing efforts like sending local farmers to various trade exhibits across the country.
