SLU, BCNHS, Tuba ES, win Panagbenga street dancing parade

BAGUIO CITY – For the second time in a row, Saint Louis University College (SLU) won the street dancing and showdown competition in the open category, while Baguio City National High School (BCNHS) and Tuba Central Elementary School bagged the high school and elementary categories, respectively, during the grand street dancing parade on the 24th edition of Panagbenga Festival or Baguio Flower Festival on March 2.
SLU presented a performance that carried the theme “Rice for Life” as they wore the Ifugao traditional attire, carrying farmer inspired equipment like plower, scare crow, water system bamboo channels, bilao, labba and highland palay. They received a cash prize of P300,000.
The Baguio City High School with their piece entitled “Wonders of Baguio” depicted the ethnicity and the cultural identity of the different Cordillera Tribes, ethnic attires, bead-work, back dress and head dress.
Their props were made out of recycled cartons, newspapers, bamboo sticks, feathers, fur, tiger grass and intricate hand painted props made by the students and teachers highlighted the presentation. They received a cash prize of P250,000.
The BCNHS street dancers were selected to represent Baguio City to the upcoming Aliwan Festival in Manila next month.
Tuba Central School topped this year’s grand street parade competition and received a cash prize amounting to P300,000.
Second place was won by Mabini Elementary School and was awarded P250,000; Third place winner Baguio Central School received P200,000; Fourth place Manuel L. Quezon Elementary School received P170,000; Fifth place Jose P. Laurel Elementary School received P150,000; Sixth place Lucban Elementary School received P140,000; and Seventh place Dontogan Elementary School received P140,000.
A total of 24 groups participated in the street dancing parade – seven vied in the elementary division; six in the high school division; and 4 in the open division. The Baguio Flower Festival
Foundation, Inc. increased the prizes and the subsidies of every contingent this year.
