The Social Security System – Luzon North 1 enrolled 103,000 new members in the first 10 months of the year, surpassing by 78 percent its 58,400 full-year target. Ceasar Saludo, SSS vice president for Luzon North 1, in a press release Wednesday, said the nine branches under their coverage area – Agoo (La Union), Baguio City, Bangued (Abra), Bontoc (Mountain Province), Candon (Ilocos Sur), San Fernando City (La Union), La Trinidad (Benguet), Laoag (Ilocos Norte, and Vigan (Ilocos Sur) — have exerted effort to reach more persons, including students who will soon enroll as a member upon graduation or when looking for a job.
He attributed the growth in membership to the intensified membership coverage drives and enhanced service delivery campaign. The increase in membership has brought to more than 900,000 the total cumulative registered SSS members in the area. In end-December 2023, SSS-Luzon North 1 had 734,000 members. There were 97 localized electronic centers (e-centers) established in various villages and establishments under SSS-Luzon North 1 while the SSS e-Wheels visited 942 locations in the Cordillera and Ilocos regions providing services to more than 49,000 individuals in last-mile communities.
“We believe that every working Filipino deserves social security system protection, which serves as our inspiration to reach out to our kababayans (fellow Filipinos) and encourage them to save for their retirement through the SSS,” Saludo said. Christian Andrew Rillorta, SSS information officer for Luzon North 1, said membership and the payment of contributions to the SSS would enable a person to avail of the multi-purpose loan, salary loan calamity loan, housing loan, disability pension, old-age pension, death benefits for the heirs or a survivorship pension for the legal heir. He said active members pay monthly contributions as a voluntary member or through the employer, who will deduct and remit the employee’s share, as well as the employer’s share of the monthly contribution. He said SSS transactions could be done online, including membership and payment, through the My.SSS portal.
