Suspect in Abra village massacre falls

The suspect in the massacre of three eel gatherers in Tubo, Abra last May that nearly spaked a bloody tribal war and was caught Thursday evening. Marlon Batuli, a native of sitio Baclingayan, Barangay Tabacda, Tubo, Abra mercilessly murdered three Agawa, Besao, Mt. Province tribesmen –Jansen “Ayban” Gabaen, Ronnie Macayba, and Pedro Sauyen—who went to fish in a river near Baclingayan, Tubo.

The trio failed to return home after a week and was later on found by a search party by Agawa villagers and barangay officials shot, stabbed and mutilated on May 27, 2019 near a river.

The massacre sparked uproar in Agawa and nearby barangays of Gueday, Lacmaan, Ambagiw, and Tamboan, all in Besao that alarmed even Baclingayan tribesmen who anticipated avenging attacks prompting them to send home their children studying in other towns in Abra and Mountain Province.

Batuli, tagged the Top Most Wanted Persons (TWMP) in the whole Cordillera Region, went into hiding after confessing to Tubo town officials that he massacred the trio, was arrested at around 6:00 o’clock in the Thursday evening at barangay Kili, Tubo, by virtue of a warrant of arrest by Regional Trial Court branch 58 in Bucay, Abra Judge Elizabeth Bringas.
