Tabuk’s modernized market to create jobs, income for city, displaced stall house owners relocated

Mayor Darwin Estranero this week stepped on the gas on his drive to have Tabuk people support the PhP640 million market development through XRC Mall Developers that is expected to generate more jobs, and income for the city and displaced owners relocated.
During a public hearing last Monday at Hotel Davidson ibn Tabuk City, the mayor said the development of the market does not discriminate against the vendors including house owners when the construction starts for the multi-million infrastructure “because they will have options such as the relocation site at Callagdao or the option to keep their enhanced stalls when the work is completed.”
“Mabalin nga maited tayo kanyada apo kapitan ti titulo da, bagi da ngem haan da mabalin mailako, bagi da dayta apo, dayta iti ited iti gobyerno (We can give to them their title, that is theirs but then they cannot sell it, they own that which was given by the government),” Estrañero said.
He said ambulant vendors can sell their wares and wares in a section of the market where they will have tables and chairs as well as a collapsible ten for use during market days. Ambulant vendors were also assured that they will the same rent price which they will pay through a ticketing fee to the barangay.
He stressed: “therefore their rental prices will remain the same.” Estranero added that for improved organizations, stalls of various commodities will be zoned appropriately.
Mayor Estrañero promised that prices of food and goods will not increase since rent will be kept at a fairly reasonable level.
Also, visitors to the market will be able to use clean, comfortable toilets for free. The market will also have a central terminal for use of the various transit groups that ply within the city or outside of Kalinga.
With its opening, more jobs will be created as more businesses will open within the Mall benefiting both young graduates and other Tabukeños seeking employment. A call center will be opened also within the mall.
Bulanao Centro Punong Barangay Cosme Gunnawa said during Monday’s public hearing urged attendees that “it is past time to completely support the development of the public market and advised the audience to push for the market’s economic advancement.”
He said that people should be more discerning and listen also to the positive effects of allowing the proponent’s proposal. He said that putting up the mall will benefit them all.
Bulanao Centro officials together with some city government officials, meanwhile, conducted Friday an ocular inspection of the relocation site in Callagdao with the affected house and stall owners.
To hear the public’s concerns and shed light on the upcoming modernization of the Bulanao Public Market, affected vendors including some stalls and house owners attended the public hearing on April 18 at Davidson Hotel relative to the relocation once the improvement of the market kicked off.
Estranero claims that once completed, the city government will earn PhP7 million annually.
