Tension begins in Abra town

BAGUIO CITY (March 29, 2022)— Tension has begun in Pilar town in Abra Tuesday morning after policemen pursued a group of armed men, who earlier rammed into a police checkpoint, at the house of that town’s vice mayor.
Abra police initially reported that a group of suspected armed men aboard a Toyota HiAce van refused to yield at a police checkpoint at the town center and instead rammed into two policemen and fired weapons while fleeing at around 10:30 AM. A police mobile with markings 557 was hit by a stray bullet.
Policemen chased the armed men who sought refuge at the compound and residence of Vice Mayor Jaja Josefina Disono. A live feed is taken from a CCTV footage posted on the social media page of the Local Government Unit (LGU) of Pilar showed uniformed policemen maneuvering in front of the residence of Vice Mayor Disono and the person who posted the live feed pleaded for help from the authorities, as he claimed they were “ambushed” by policemen.
Disono claimed that before the incident, she went to the municipal building to attend the town’s regular Sangguniang Bayan.  She claimed that since there was no quorum, she decided to go home, along with her aides.
According to Disono, when they were on their way home, she noticed a police checkpoint along the way.  She said the police let the vehicle she was on the onboard pass, but stopped the vehicle of her aides. The Vice Mayor said they heard gunshots prompting them to speed home. Disono claimed one of their companions was killed.
In the live feed, a lifeless body is covered with white cloth, and blood oozing from the said body. The fatality was lying beside a white van. Abra police have not identified the fatality yet pending further investigation.
