Three Baguio athletic bowl projects to provide 413 parking slots

The city will be able to provide 413 parking slots when three projects within the Baguio athletic bowl sports complex will be finished.
City Planning and Development Officer Donna Tabangin said that the city may have more than that as the old auditorium will be converted into a multi-purpose parking.
In her report, the proposed parking structures within the seven hectare sports complex are the proposed Baguio Youth Convergence and Sports Complex that will rise at the empty lot in front of the swimming pool, the Baguio tennis court and the small wooden grandstand.
City Administrator Bonifacio dela Pena earlier said that it’s all systems go for the bidding of the PhP394 million convergence center after the Department of Environment and Natural Resources posed no objection to its construction even as it sits within the Original Certificate of Tile No. 1.
The city is also set to develop the old wooden bleachers with a PhP110million funding. The Baguio tennis courts, meanwhile, will be made into a multi-level building equipped with parking spaces at the lower two floors and the top will serve tennis players where three courts will be made into fast surfaced hard courts and a fourth and slower made of clay and shell just like the present to accommodate senior citizens.
He said that city government might go into a public-private partnership via solicited proposal to fast track the development of the old auditorium, an open parking space that has souvenir shops and cafes.
Mayor Benjamin B. Magalong told the members of the city’s finance committee and technical personnel to prepare the pertinent documents for the final terms of reference for the immediate offering for solicited proposals by the end of next month.
The put up of the four structures will help solve the disarray in parking at the 34-hectare park. He said that there is a need “to put this in order to help bring back the beauty of the tourist destination and address the perennial parking issues in the park.”
Meanwhile, the city is preparing a comprehensive master development plan for the Burnham Park as basis in the implementation of proposed development projects.
The park is also set to get the PhP480million funding from the Tourism Infrastructure and Enterprise Authority for its upgrade.
