Two More Cases In Baguio City Hitting 100 Mark

BAGUIO CITY (July 28, 2020) –  Baguio City’s Coronavirus disease (COVID-19) toll hit 100 after two more cases showed up Tuesday.
Mayor Benjamin Magalong said the patients are a 59-year old female from P. Zamora and a 57-year old female from QM barangay.
With the surge of patients here turning out 47 active cases (36 new since last week), Magalong had imposed adjusted measures to respond to what he considered as “a second wave” of virus affliction in Baguio City.
Stricter border controls were ordered wherein only essential and necessary travel is allowed, reimplementation of Sunday lockdown and liquor ban effective, closure of the Baguio City Public Market every Sunday and intensification of disinfection measures in all establishments.
He again reminded the strict observance of the minimum health standard such as the proper wearing of facemask, social distancing and observance of proper hygiene.
At least 13 barangays have been placed on lockdown to give way for contact tracing and disinfection.  Barangays on lockdown are: Brookside, Engineers Hill, Lopez Jaena, New Lucban, MRR-Queen of Peace, Tracoville, Celestial Village in Asin Road, Bakakeng Central, Purok 1 of Middle Quezon Hill, SLU-SVP, Sto. Tomas Central (School Area), Balacbac (in Sto. Tomas),  Purok 20, 21, 22 in Irisan, Youngland and Amparo Heights of Camp 7 and San Vicente.
As of July 26 monitoring,  3,256 people are on a 14-day home quarantine, while 17,969 have completed the home isolation duration.
As of Sunday,  there have been 21,164 Reverse Transcription-Polymerase Chain Reaction (RT-PCR) tests done for the city and 8,657 Rapid Diagnostic Tests (RDT) administered.
Magalong said mall schedules will also be imposed.  “Wellness and other permitted activities will still be allowed but with heightened monitoring for health and safety protocols.   Only frontliners, senior citizens and persons with disabilities shall be allowed out (on Sunday).”
The recently appointed contact tracing czar stressed, “if you have flu-like symptoms, please inform your barangay officials. If there are people around you who are not following our health protocols, remind them as well, or report them to the proper authorities. Our MGCQ rules and regulations are there to protect the community and save lives, let us not disregard them.

We will intensify our campaign against improper wearing of face masks and violations on social distancing.”
There is an ongoing testing of 10 percent of the city’s population 250,000 population that began three weeks ago.
